Review of The Nutcracker by Jenni Fleetwood

This is a delightful book. I had it for my own children and have now bought a copy for my granddaughter. The story moves along at a comfortable speed for young onesand there is much to look at on each page. First page sets the scene in the drawing room and two large doors invite the child to open and be excited at the magnificent Christmas tree that gently pops up. Next page details the presents with multiple windows to open with tantalising presents behind. Another page shows the animated fight between the nutcracker and the Mouse King. The sleigh ride through the winter wonderland must be my favourite with opening trees showing sugar plums and lemon drops growing on trees made of spun sugar and eventually leading to the Palace. The penultimate page shows the dancers in the Great Hall culminating in the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It ends with Clara asleep in her own bed cuddling the nutcracker. The illustrations are lovely and there are pull-outs on every page. Using this to familiarise a child with the story would be a great way to introduce a beautiful story before taking them to see the ballet. It only has a few pages but each one is filled with interest, interaction, and delight. My children looked at this book again and again and I am now delighted to introduce it to my granddaughter and enjoy it all over again.

Lovely little book

This is a lovely little book of the Nutcracker. Clara is the lead (not Marie as in some versions). Our book didn't come with the ribbon or pop out scene, but it has been a well loved bedtime story and the basis of our daughters 6th birthday party.

More than a nutcracker

This being the story based on the Nutcracker suite is more than just the tale about nutcrackers. On ChristmasEve a girl, Maria, recieves a nutcracker toy from her godfather Drosselmeir and when her brother, Fred, breaks him bymaking him crack hard nuts Maria becomes so attached to her precious toy that when he comes to life at midnight and themice army threaten to kill him she has to sacrifice her sugar toys so he'd be safe. The story, if you don't know it, is actually the background story for "Barbie in the Nutcracker" which is why I came upon this book, though there are differences between the two stories. If you are looking for a good Christmas story I'd recomend this book as it will be a good Christmas present for thosewho like holiday tales. I hope this helps.
